Age of Empires goes online… oh and free!
Microsoft’s latest foray into the world of strategy launches on Tuesday, in the form of this “freemium” online release.
Whilst the core game is 100% free many advanced options, game play modes and indeed entire civilisations, will be available for a small charge following it’s release date.
Now, before you worry about it’s “freemium” nature you should be advised that Gas Powered Games, makers of some of the best strategy games out there, have been leading it’s development since February this year. If any games studio deserves the benefit of the doubt when it comes to strategy games it is GPG. So check it out if Greeks & / or Egyptians (with Celtic and Persians on their way) are down your alley.
Other points of note for this one include the addition of MMO elements to it’s RTS formula, cities that persist online when the player is offline and multi-player / co-op based missions. Definitely sounds worth a look in our book… http://www.ageofempiresonline.com
